I was born in South Korea

and moved to Canada when I was 15. It was mostly my mother’s decision. My mother, who loved classic romantic comedy film such as “Sleepless in Seattle” and “You’ve got mail”, told the immigration officer that she wants to become a Canadian, because Celine Dion is a Canadian. Somehow that answer made the immigration officer laugh and so new life in Vancouver began for my family. Music/jazz entered my life after I moved to Canada. Because I didn’t speak English back then, music became my biggest mean to express myself. Which led me to take my first jazz piano lesson with Bob Doyle then applied for Capilano University jazz studies. From Cap U, I had an honor to study with great teachers such as Ross Taggart and Bill Coon. After spending almost a decade, and going through a thriving dish washing and driving auto parts careers, I finally obtained a bachelor in music from Cap U! You might think that’s enough jazz education for one life time, but Nooooooooo, I had to go get a graduate degree at University of Oregon. (but that was after I worked as an accompanist for Unitarian church for 2 years.) After studying with Steve Owen and Idit Shner from UO, I decided to move to Montreal for new adventures.
